I have not worked on my project for the past week. This is due to the fact that I was out of town. Originally, my plan was to at least attempt to get something done. However, the preparations for leaving town took over the beginning portion of the week. And then finally skipping town took over the rest. I have decided not to worry about it since it was officially Spring Break. Upon returning to town I realized that I had brought back a few items that I could use as props for the remaining scenes I need to shoot. At first I paid them no mind, but last night the idea suddenly came to me. I thought about my storyboard and how for a portion of the scenes the main character was essentially goofing off.  At the time I was playing around with a toy bow and arrow, and a deck of playing cards. I realized that I could incorporate these items into the scenes if I want to. The only thing to do now is reshoot them. Today I also did a basic equipment check after school. I wanted to see if ...

I did not do much filming this week besides some takes I did on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I skipped around and did some shots that did not contain any characters in frame. Some of these shots will have titles on them. However, others are more to establish a change in setting. I did this because it was quick and easy. I could control the angle of the camera and strictly be the director when doing takes for those moments. Whereas with others I would be both the director and the actor.  Even though they were simpler I still made sure to do more than one take in order to compare. Being constantly in control of the camera helped, as I did not have to pause in the middle of the takes to adjust. And I also was able to see where exactly the camera was pointing instead of guessing.  For some takes I considered my lighting options and shot each with different lighting to compare. I think this was good for me because it helps me see how lighting can effect the vibes a scene has. Or it c...

I reshot the scene from my last blog. This time before shooting I did multiple things. First, I set up my location. I began by rearranging my living room. I had to change the location of my desktop computer and vase because it blocked the view of the camera. I then set up my equipment. I placed the camera on the table to make up for the lack of height. I then angled it to point towards where I would be and zoomed in a little to make me the focal point of the camera. After this I then set up my lighting. The day prior I purchased more lights but they were different from the others. The others were attachable to the camera. The new one is only attachable to the wall. So instead of placing the other lights I had on the camera, I used the new ones and attached them to the wall the camera was not facing. This time the top of the tripod did not give out. This is because there was not an abundance of weight at the top that could not be supported by the bottom. I then proceeded to do diff...

I reshot the previous scene I attempted to shoot. Overall the process went well.  I started by first positioning the tripod on top of two baskets stacked together. I then checked the angle of the camera and confirmed that it was positioned to my liking. And then I attached the lighting fixture. At first it seemed to be working well until I looked at the camera in the middle of a take and noticed that the camera was moving. I began to notice that when I set the camera up on the tripod to film it eventually swerves downward. I attempted to readjust it multiple times. But no matter the position I placed it in the tripod still swerved. Sometimes to the point where the camera completely disconnected from the tripod and and the light attachment disconnected from the camera. In an attempt to work around this I detached the light fixture from the camera and decided to see if it would still do the same thing without the added weight. The tripod readjusted a bit but it did not swerve l...

Filming and Editing Blog

I began filming today. However, upon making my way to what I consider to be my first location I noticed that there were certain objects that needed to be moved around in order to make room for the tripod and the camera angle I had to rearrange various things. After rearranging the area I tried to do a couple of takes but none of them were to my satisfactory. I noticed that the tripod was a little too short to get the angle I wanted and decided to find something I can balance it on in order to try again tomorrow. As for the takes I did, I placed them in an labelled album in order to compare them to the ones I will do tomorrow. With the rest of my time, I decided to work on another aspect of my project. I decided to do some music searching in order to find the song or songs I wish to use in my sequence.  Prior to searching I already knew that I want the music to be upbeat or funky.  This is because I want to give my sequence a cheerful and goofy feel. And I know that slow ...

I did not start filming yet. This is because after some thinking I decided there were some things I needed in order to help my process. I knew that I would need something to attach my camera to since I would be doing this alone. I also knew that I would need some type of extra lighting just in case I wanted to shoot in a particular place or at a time where it was lacking.. Because of this, I ended up getting a tripod. I also ended up getting a light attachment which I can clip onto my camera and use. Upon getting these items I immediately opened them and put them together. I wanted to get a feel for how they work. And I also wanted to at least acquaint myself with their features. For the tripod, I learned how far it can extend. I also learned to what extent I can rotate the attachment smoothly before reaching resistance. I noticed that it was not super tall. So in order to utilize it for close-ups or mid-shots I will most likely have to find some type of support. I also noticed th...

Planning for Final Task: Storyboard

Image
The storyboard begins with a close-up of the main character sleeping. Her alarm goes off and when she opens her eyes music begins to play. It then cuts to the bathroom. The camera pans up from the mat in front of the shower as the music plays and the studio title is then shown in the center. It then cuts again to a mid-shot of the bathroom sink and mirror and the production company title is shown. The main character, Mac, then walks up to the mirror in an over the shoulder shot after the title goes away and begins to brush her teeth while making a face at herself in the mirror. In the next scene there is an establishing shot of the kitchen and the title of the movie is displayed in the center. It then cuts to Mac attempting to catch food in her mouth from two different angles.  The camera then cuts to a mid-shot of Mac in the kitchen, looking at and talking to the camera. The camera then pans to Mac's homework assignment on the table. And then cuts to a long-shot of Mac sitt...

Planning for the final task: Title Design

Image
(Example included in the picture) I have decided to use the font tone typewriter Alfa Slab One   for my title sequence. The font colors will be black and white. White if the background contrasts. Black if it does not. The size will be medium This is because I want the viewers to focus partially on the background while also reading the titles. I am unsure about the spacing as the editing software I use typically handles that without any options or suggestions for me. The same can be said for the tracking. For now, my working title will be 'The Homework Plan'. The titles will enter the screen by typing. However, if that does not work out then they will simply appear. Then they will fade out. The titles will be on the screen for at least five seconds. They will then leave. At the current moment, although I have not begun filming or editing I am attempting to become familiar with titles. Specifically the titles in my editing software and how I can use them. I think knowing the ext...
