What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? What connotations do these images carry?
Images that are prioritized are machines. The ray of a machine going around the characters and various items. Mirrors with ghosts trapped inside. The main characters in their ghostbusting uniforms with their ghost hunting weapons in their hands. The image of the city with a ghost crossed out on top of it. The connotations these images carry is that the characters are techy people who are ghost hunters and that they rid the city of ghosts.
How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
The film establishes a feeling of the genre from the outset by having some of the characters appear bewildered in the opening although the song in the background suggests that they are the "real deal" and are totally capable of handling the situation. This lets the viewers know that they are most likely in for a laugh.
What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The opening sequence has elements of a supernatural comedy. Thus appealing to both audiences who
like the supernatural and audiences who like a laugh.
How has technology been used effectively?
Technology has been used effectively in that the opening runs smoothly and looks nice although
it is clear that it is editing and maybe 3-D or animation that makes it. Although it is such the camera
moves smoothly from one image to the next almost as if it were filming a live scene rather than what it
actually is.
