Intro Blog
My name is Michal Pringle. I am in the 12th grade. I have always been a movie person, but I never asked myself what went on behind the camera until fairly recently. I began to take an interest in film which is why I originally wanted to take this class. However, there are other aspects I have come to enjoy. I find it fascinating how the media can play a vital role in a person's development. Some forms of media are even considered to be a staple household watch , listen, or view. For example, people may be shocked if someone tells them that they haven't seen the movie Mean Girls or Clueless. Or if a person tells them they have never heard the work of a specific music artist. What really interests me the most is how messages are conveyed through these mediums. Life lessons are taught, perspectives are broadened, and people get to experience life through the eyes of someone else for a moment in time.
My favorite media to consume tends to be works which accentuate the musings of someone else. I enjoy when a protagonist wrestles with and attempts to answer a philosophical question or when artists attempts to showcase the inner workings of their mind. The more it leaves me thinking, the better. This is probably because I like to break down complex ideas and metaphorically run in circles with them. I think viewing the inside of a person's mind while they navigate their surroundings is riveting because that's what everyone does everyday. We all go about our lives while constantly thinking, processing, and moving. It can seem ordinary when you are living it, but appears differently in media when someone else is. One of my favorite books that I think perfects this is We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson so I'll leave you with a quote. "The only thing in life that's forever is death. You can change your mind about everything else."
