Editing Blog: Music Video

Once I was done with filming, I compiled all of my takes together in an album. After gathering all of the footage I gave each scene a run through. I chose those that I thought were the best takes alone. And then uploaded them into the video editor on my phone. From the start I knew that all of the unedited footage together would exceed the maximum time length. Adding things such as transitions or cuts only made it longer. Because of this I first decided to condense some takes and even replace one scene. Since I was already having trouble with scene 5 I decided to replace it with a random shot I took that was not on my storyboard. It was ultimately shorter than the other scene and when edited seemed to fit more. I wanted the video to have a rhythm to it, but I was unsure about how I would go about creating one. Luckily, online searching works wonders. I was able to emulate a video explaining syncing audio to video. But first I had to edit the audio down to the desired length. It took some time to decide which portion of the song should be played as I did not want the video and audio to seem as if it abruptly ended. After careful consideration I decided to start from the beginning. That would allow me to use the first 58-60 seconds of the song which was a more smooth cutoff when compared to the second half. Looking back at the previous time I spent editing, I was shocked by the amount of footage I had. I expected it to be more than needed but considering the constraints it was way more. I think in future projects that is something I should continue to work on. For now I will end this blog with a screenshot from the beginning of the editing process.
